Self-Centered vs. Selfish: Knowing the Difference
Let's clear something up.
Being self-centered and being selfish are not the same thing.
For years, many people especially women have been taught that putting themselves first is somehow wrong. We're praised for giving, sacrificing, and accommodating everyone else. Then we wonder why we're exhausted, overwhelmed, and disconnected from ourselves.
Being selfish means caring about yourself at the expense of others.
Being self-centered means making yourself a priority so you can show up as your best self.
You cannot pour from an empty cup. You cannot lead, love, inspire, or serve effectively when you're constantly running on empty.
Taking care of yourself isn't selfish. Setting boundaries isn't selfish. Protecting your time isn't selfish.
The healthiest people understand that self-care is not a luxury. It's a responsibility.
You teach people how to treat you by how you treat yourself first.
Make yourself a priority. Not because you're better than anyone else, but because your well-being matters too.
