Stop Asking “What's Wrong With Me?” and Start Asking “What Happened to Me?”

The question “What's wrong with me?” assumes you're broken. Try asking a better question: “What happened to me?” Maybe you learned to shrink yourself to keep people comfortable. Maybe criticism taught you to distrust your appearance. Maybe rejection convinced you that you weren't enough. Maybe you became a perfectionist because mistakes once felt unsafe. Understanding your patterns doesn't mean excusing them. It means giving yourself information you can actually use. Self-awareness begins when you replace judgment with curiosity. Instead of attacking yourself for the way you respond, investigate where the response came from. You can't rewrite what you refuse to understand. Sometimes healing begins with asking a kinder question.
