It started with the horns: trumpets, trombones, sousaphones. The Whole freaking NINE.... For the majority of the evening, superstar singer Beyonce was backed by a booming vibrant marching band, in the way of historically black college football halftime shows. This selection instantly revitalized her classics, and focused more on black musical traditions from New Orleans second line marches to Houston’s chopped-and-screwed hip-hop. I loved this performance. OMG. Did I mention the transitions were seamless. She slayed in every way and hazed us a bit in the process.
